Lakers Attempt to Bring Anthony Davis
February 19, 2019
Los Angeles Lakers are pursuing a superstar caliber player before the NBA trade deadline, to increase their chances to compete for a championship and get their 17th NBA championship. With one player in their radar Anthony Davis.
Lakers have been very aggressive in their attempt to establish a trade for Anthony Davis, going so far as to practically trade their entire current roster of players, for one player. The trade package contained most of the young core like Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, Lonzo Ball, Ivica Zubac, Michael Beasley, Lance Stephenson, as well as a first-round pick. But with all that talent offered to them for one player the New Orleans Pelicans, Anthony Davis’s current team, still, don’t want to accept the trade and looked to have more added to it including 7 additional draft picks. After all this, the Los Angeles Lakers stop trade discussions with the Pelicans because of the outrageous trade requests. After the trade deadline on February 7, Anthony Davis ended up staying in New Orleans for the remainder of the season with the Lakers hoping to land him as a free agent.

I think both teams GMs weren’t thinking right when the trade occurred, especially the Pelicans GM. Why would the Lakers GM trade this many players and why did the Pelicans GM not accept it? One thing is that I don’t know why the Lakers traded all of their young players. Brandon Ingram is improving and Kuzma is going to be an all star. In my opinion, the trade was overall crazy. We were really close to getting another all star. Hopefully the Lakers will be able to get Anthony Davis in the off-season in his free agency.

I think adding Anthony Davis would be cool and all, but to give up the young core would not be worth it. Especially the greatest of all time Kyle Kuzma. I’m happy the trade did not occur and I think we could get better trade options next year.

The rumors during the week of the trade deadline were very fascinating. It was obvious that Davis wanted to play for the Lakers and that the Lakers wanted him, but no deal could be reached. I was very suprised New Orleans declined the offer because it included three young and rising stars, 3 veterans, and four picks for one player.
