Softball

Taft’s softball this year showed that giving up is never an option. The girls have had a tough season due to the rainy weather. The girls have been rained out for most of their games, and when they are unable to make them up, it  lead them to be canceled. Although their season was cut short, all members of the team played their best with the time they had. On March 20, the girls had a softball game against Birmingham Charter High School. Like most sports, JV plays before Varsity, and as the JV girls were playing it began to rain. Rather than call the game, everyone continued to play through the rain because it was not yet bad enough to cancel. Then the storm arrived.   As it began to hail, and lightning struck, the team was again aware that they would probably have to cancel. The two teams played for a little while longer before the game was officially canceled, attempting to prove that bad weather wouldn’t dictate every game of the season, but safety was the number one priority, and with lightning, it wasn’t weather that could be ignored.

This was a common trait of the season. Most of their games were canceled due to the crazy weather, but if they had the option to continue playing they would. I asked JV’s pitcher Reyna Viramontes what she had thought of this years season she said, “Being that it is my first year playing for  Taft softball, I admire being on the team. Due to the weather, we have had many games cancelled but we managed to still make the best of it! Our team is like a family, we have each other’s backs especially on the field. Even at our worst times we always maintain a positive attitude.” Coach Landry is the coach for both Varsity and Junior Varsity and she has done a spectacular job managing both teams for they have both won some of their games. Softball is a really fun sport, you should try out and join the team next year!
