With the Fall sports season coming to an end, Girls Volleyball league games are starting to end and playoffs begin. At the end of the season, the Taft’s Girls Volleyball Varsity team was undefeated with a 10-0 record in league games, something that hadn’t been done in the league for six years. Currently, the team has finished their additional non-league games and are out of the City Championships after a playoff game loss on Wednesday, October 30th.

As selected by the CIF-LA City Section LAVCA Committee, as of October 13th, 2019, the girl’s volleyball team was ranked first in open division volleyball. The teams playing in Open Division are Taft, Eagle Rock, Palisades, Granada Hills, El Camino, Narbonne, Cleveland, and Carson. Taft also plays teams outside of that list during the season from Division 1 and others.

Throughout the season, the team’s captains, Shelby Roloff, Nieko Thomas, and Danae Johnson, have led the team through many victories not only in league games but tournaments out of town as well. They have traveled to play in tournaments throughout the summer and fall. They have traveled to Oxnard, Westlake, Burbank, San Francisco, Long Beach, and others.

Taft had an unfortunate loss during a playoff game against Cleveland with a set score of 1-3 and can no longer compete for city, but their chances of winning a championship are not over yet. As it has been done on several occasions before, they hope to succeed in State Championship playoff games and go onto finals. State Championships will take place on November 12th against a team that is yet to be determined. Come out and support Taft Sports at any of the upcoming playoff games!
