TV Show Friends Makes Comeback in Teen Culture

Some might find it odd that the most popular TV show from the late ’90s has found a new audience, but teenagers have connected with the loveable sitcom once again through the power of online streaming services. Pop culture has again shifted to the Ross and Rachel’s of the world. The Emmy award-winning TV show was created in 1994 by David Crane and Marta Kauffman and ran for 10 seasons until its eventual end in 2004.

The show is about six close friends who are living in New York City and their relationships, successes and failures, and their progression from friends into family. The tv show mostly takes place in their apartments and the popular coffee house, Central Perk. The six main characters were incredibly different people: there is the princess, the cool guy, the adorable geek, the hippy, the control freak and the socially awkward but lovable jokester.

There was and still is much to connect with on the show. Audiences felt at home in the living rooms of Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Joey, and Phoebe (the actress of the character is a Taft alumnus by the way). There was a sense that you knew these characters, and their lives reflected parts of your own. With streaming services teens are again finding these characters and connecting with them every day. From social concerns to fashion, ‘Friends’ is influencing the world and shedding a silly, fun light on this country in a time when we so desperately need positivity.
