  • Are you staying after school late and feeling hungry? The marching band and color guard has your back! Stop by Panda Express this Friday to satisfy your appetite. As you enjoy your meal, don’t forget to give your flyer (or a picture of the flyer) at the register for the T.E.A.F fundraiser to support your one and only band and color guard.   • Congratulations to this year’s Marathon Finishers: Issac, Campbell, Dael, Eliee, Daniel, Ben, Sasha, Bilal, Elly, Dax, Lucia, Lesley, Leo, and Isabella. You ran 26.2 miles! You’re all amazing!

  • This past weekend our dance team competed at SHARP competition against many other dance groups. They represented Taft very well and won multiple trophies. The dance team won 1st place overall sharp champions, 1st place lyrical, 1st place jazz, 1st place prop, 2nd place military, 2nd place small hip hop, and 2nd place XL hip hop! Their next competition is this Saturday at Glendale High School, so let’s wish them luck! TDT YOU KNOW!

 

  • Attention all Taft students! We are just ONE DAY away from the California primary! Which, by the way, have you registered to vote? If not, you must be a U.S. citizen a CA resident, 18 years old by November 3rd, and you must not have been convicted of a crime. If you won’t be old enough to vote tomorrow, or in the general election, you can still pre-register at 16 or 17 years old. Also, come get pins today on the service road @ lunch for the various presidential candidates!

 

  • Tomorrow night in our gym our boys varsity basketball team  opens up the state playoffs against Mark Koppel. The game starts at 7pm. Tickets are $5 for students. Our boys are seeded #4 in their division. It’s also vintage jersey give away night. Let’s pack our gym. Doors open at 6pm. Should be a great game.

 

  • Attention Seniors! This Friday, March 6th is the absolute LAST day Herff Jones will be here! If you put a deposit on a package, you MUST pay your remaining balance March 6th @ lunch! If you would still like to purchase your cap/gown, Friday is your LAST chance! Package #3 is still available for $70, but must be paid Friday @ lunch. Go to R186 with any questions.

 

  • Taft Debate scored at the State Debate Qualifier, hosted by Taft last Saturday. The Parliamentary Debate Teams of Nick Catalano and Vishnu Murali, and Jack Morris and Antonio Herrera will compete in the state tournament April 24-26 at Logan High School near San Jose. Go Taft Debate!

  • Taft Dance team will be competing at the sharp dance competition this Saturday, February 29 at Eisenhower High School. They will be competing in six different dance categories. If you would like to come out and support, all info will be posted on the @taftdanceteam19.20 Instagram, dance team would greatly appreciate it! If you see a dance team member wish them good luck!

 

  • Happy Black History Month! On this day in Black History, poet Phillis Wheatly died in 1784. Today is also the day actress Juanita Hall died in 1968. And remember, even though it’s the last day of Black History Month doesn’t mean we should stop celebrating black excellence and all minority brilliance for that matter! Thank you for celebrating with us.

They are: billionaires Tom Steyer and Micheal Bloomberg, former mayor Pete Buttigieg, Senator Amy Klobuchar, Senator Elizabeth Warren, former VP Joe Biden, and Senator Bernie Sanders; all for the Democratic party. For the Republican party: there is former governor Bill Weid, and our amazing president Donald Trump. Choose wisely!

  • Hello Taft! As we all know, Taft is having our very own mock election on Super Tuesday! But what is Super Tuesday? This March 3, Super Tuesday is the day when most U.S. states hold primary elections and caucuses to determine the presidential nominee in each party! How cool!

  • Happy Black History Month! On this day in Black History, Hiram R. Revels became the first Black U.S. Senator. Amazing! Today is also the day the oldest predominantly black institution, Cheyney University, was founded, Black power!

 

  • What’s up Taft! We are just 1 week away from the presidential primaries. Which begs the question “What is a primary?” Essentially a primary is an election to appoint candidates, running for president, to represent their party. The more you know, you know? Also, this coming Tuesday, Taft will be having our very own mock election! Remember, every vote matters!

In AP Art History, you find out about art from Stone Age cave paintings all the way up to modern art. Come sign up to show your interest in AP Art History at the “AP, Honors, and Creative Fair” on Friday, February 21st at lunch in Taft Hall. You can also talk to Mrs. Cleary about AP Art History in Room D224.

  • Happy Black History month Taft! On this day in Black History. World renowned singer Ninja Simone was born in 1933. She is most famous for popularizing the song “Feeling Good” which remains one of the most covered songs to this day. It’s been covered even by celebrities such as Micheal Buble and Jennifer Hudson. Happy Birthday Nina!

  • Taft Speech and Debate scored this weekend at the Cal Lutheran Institutional. The Parliamentary Debate team of Nick Catalano and Lailee Golesorkhi took 4th place and Lily Tocher took 4th in Oratorical Interpretation. Go Taft Speech and Debate!

  • Good morning Taft students and staff. Selah and Kylie are here to remind you that today is THE day. Taft’s first ever Mental Health and Wellness Resource Fair is taking place today during period 4 and lunch. Period 4 teachers who signed up have received their papers. Come check out the fair, visit the booths, play some games. We have fun activities, tons of giveaways and you can enter a raffle to win some great things. See you there!

 

  • Happy Black History Month everyone! On this day in Black History, the First Black pro Basketball team, “The Renaissance” was organized in 192. Today was also the day Shirley Chisholm became the first black woman elected to Congress! Power to the people.

  • The UCLA trip with Ms. Brownell is tomorrow! Please meet at the front of the school by 7:50 am tomorrow or you may be left behind. Wear layered clothing and comfortable walking shoes. You can bring snacks, drinks, and money to buy fast food. You can bring electronics and your backpack. See you tomorrow at the front of the school by 7:50 am!

 

  • Attention 2020 Graduating Seniors: Diploma name cards will be handed out in your 3rd-period classes today. Your name is printed on the card the way it will be printed on your diploma. Carefully check your name for accuracy and if you have a correction neatly fill out the card and return it to the counseling office by February 21st. The roster of names is also posted outside the counseling office for you to review.

 

  • Behind an unbelievable team defense, the girl’s varsity basketball team won their biggest game of the year, beating city champions Granada Hills last Friday. The final score was 41-38! Rosa Callejas had team highs with 19 points and 5 steals. Gabby Quintana had 10 rebounds and Audrey Quintana had 7 assists. The girls qualify for the open division playoffs Thursday night at Palisades. Great Job Girls Basketball!
