Senior Movie/ Karaoke Night

Senior Movie Night created a memorable moment for Seniors with students singing various bops and a spine-chilling movie to end the night. After being rescheduled twice due to some unfortunate events, the night was made up of laughter and frightening screams. The event had been rescheduled due to the crazy, horrifying Woolsey fires and the teacher strike. The event finally took place on February 5th and it just so happened to be extraordinary. Seniors gathered together and had a great time. Blankets and pillows laid everywhere, the smell of popcorn, the sound of the students singing to their favorite songs for karaoke.

A lot of students, and even some teachers, participated in karaoke. The songs varied from Alicia Keys to the All-American Rejects. Mr. Derry participated in karaoke singing “Call Me Maybe” with some of his students. It was a happy moment for everyone because they all just sang along freely. The students’ performances were pretty outstanding. Many would have thought they were shy, but everyone was confident and just free. Aria Taherian sang “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys and everyone was truly blown away by how amazing he sang. We asked Aria how he felt about singing in front of a crowd and he said it was a lot of fun and that he felt the energy from the room go up when he went up in front of everyone. We also interviewed Sarah Acuna and asked her how she felt about karaoke and she said, “It was fun to watch + listen to my friends and classmates singing along to their favorite songs! Everyone sang wonderfully in their own ways, and I wish that I had taken the opportunity to go up and sing or that others were considerate about the time limit and had given others a choice to go up and have a chance to sing! Overall, it was exciting.”

After they had announced that the movie would be starting shortly, everyone rushed to get their food and snacks. The movie that was to be played was “Hereditary”, a spine-chilling, hair-raising movie that will have you at the edge of your seat. Hereditary came out in June 2018. According to Google, the movie is about the time when the matriarch of the Graham family passes away, her daughter and grandchildren begin to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry, trying to outrun the sinister fate they have inherited.

The movie was truly a scare. There were students gasping, screaming, hiding under their blankets, and just munching on their nails waiting to see what was next. We interviewed Suha Ahmed and asked her what she had thought of the movie and she responded saying, “The movie was definitely scary. I was basically hiding behind my friend for the last twenty minutes. I thought the plot was kind of strange, but it was for sure full of horror.” Based on the cheering and chatter that came from the students after the event had ended, the night had been a success! Of course, everyone was a little jumpy after the horror film, but everyone was also satisfied with the film they have chosen for Movie Night. Seniors, if you haven’t attended any of the senior events it is highly recommended that you go to as many as possible and make the best of them!!
