Many have been waiting on who will challenge Donald Trump for the 2020 election. Typically, candidates state that they are running later in the year but due to the eagerness of the public, it has become much earlier. While there are many contenders, only one from each party can win the primaries to be endorsed by their party to become a candidate for the presidency. Here is a list of the names and policies of each candidate running so far.

• Michael Bennett: (D) Bennett is a moderate Democrat, but he is willing to compromise for both sides. His major campaign goals are to increase infrastructure spending and modernize the economy.

• Joe Biden: (D)  Biden’s goals are to strengthen economic protections for low-income workers and to restore America’s position.

• Cory Booker: (D) Booker is from New Jersey has been one of the main pushers for criminal justice reform and to unite our currently divided country.

• Pete Buttigieg: (D) Buttgieg supports the Green New Deal, Medicare for all, and the legalization of marijuana. His stance on vaccinations is that it should be optional for medical reasons.

• Julian Castro: (D) Castro advocates for universal pre-kindergarten, Medicare for all and immigration reform.

• John Delany: (D) Delany is more moderate since he wants to become a bipartisan solver but he is an advocate for universal health care.

• Tulsi Gabbard: (D) Gabbard’s main goal in her campaign is to limit the US intervention overseas.

• Kirsten Gillibrand: (D) Gillibrand’s agenda is to mainly focus on women’s rights and advocate for moms in America.

• Kamala Harris: (D) Harris proposes tax cuts for the middle class and she is liberal when it comes to civil rights.

• John Hickenlooper: (D) Hickenlooper has emphasized that there should be an expansion of gay rights, Medicaid and gun control.

• Jay Inslee: (D) Inslee considers that climate change has to be America’s number 1 focus to fix and he plans to create renewable energy jobs.

• Amy Klobuchar: (D) Klobuchar plans to combat the opioid crisis and to fix the costs of prescription drugs.

• Wayne Messam: (D) Messam has  proposed canceling the more than $1.5 trillion in student debt.

• Seth Moulton: (D) Moulton is a war veteran has proposed to make a new approach for foreign policy, national security and defense.

• Beto O’Rourke: (D) O’Rourke plans to focus on immigration reform, marijuana legalization and rural hospital access.

• Tim Ryan: (D) Ryan mostly focuses on foreign policy and jobs such as negotiating or enforcing trade deals, punishing Chinese currency manipulation, unions rights, and workforce development.

• Bernie Sanders: (D) Sanders is one of the most famous candidates, Sanders advocates for  Medicare for all, free college tuition, and cutting off the influence of the billionaires that influence government.

• Eric Swalwell: (D) Swalwell proposes funding for innovation in medical research and for a national ban on assault weapons.

• Elizabeth Warren: (D) Warren is a huge advocate for free college tuition and also to protect the middle class from big corporations and political corruption.

• Marianne Williamson: (D) Williamson is proposing for $100 billion in reparations for slavery since she believes that America needs a moral and spiritual awakening.

• Andrew Yang:  (D) Yang wants to establish a universal basic income of $1,000 per month for all Americans.

• Donald Trump: (R) Trump wants to finish on what he has not been able to which is restricting immigration and building a wall at the Mexican border,  renegotiating international deals on trade, arms control, climate change, and withdrawing American troops from overseas.

• William F. Weld: (R) Weld wants to legalize marijuana, regulate free trade and immigration and favors fiscal restraint.

With no immediately obvious winners, it will be an extremely contentious primary season. With only one spot on each ticket for one of the most important elections in our country’s history it’s vital for everyone of voting age to rock the vote. This is our country and our future.
