Good, Clean, Competitive Fun!

Senior+Dodgeball+Night

On Tuesday, March 5th, 2019, Taft senior steering hosted senior dodgeball in the Taft gym from 6 pm till 8 pm. Students and teachers gather together throwing dodgeballs all around while a variety of people from the bleachers cheer them on. This event wasn’t only for seniors to come and see their peers play all the underclassmen had the opportunity to come to watch the seniors, teachers, and staff play against each other. Some of the teachers and staff that participated in the dodgeball game were Mr. Tucker, Mr. Whitley, Mr. Loza, Mr. Tapia, Mr. Mckinley, Mrs. Aviv, Mrs. Murphy, and Mr. Valerio. The prize for the winning team was $20 off towards a grad night or prom ticket. The dodgeball game was intense especially when it came to students going against teachers and staff. Unfortunately, one of the team members from Turtle Squad, Luis Ramirez, got injured during the 2nd game. He severely sprained his wrist, was sent to the hospital, and is now recovering.

For the final round, it was the Dunder Mifflin’s against the G.O.A.T Squad. They were going head to head everyone was on the edge of their seats then BOOM! The G.O.A.T Squad won with the group consisting of Mason Walker, Isaac Vergara, Jonah Mendelson, Jalen Dass, Malik Williams, Edson Naranjo, Dillon Sedaghat, and Darwin Resurrection. The team was filled with joy while the crowd was cheering for them. We asked Briana Alcaraz what she thought of the game, and she said, “I didn’t think dodgeball was going to be as fun, and intense as I thought it would be. It was pretty great seeing the teachers go against their students.” We also spoke with Mrs. Aviv who said, “It was a lot of fun, I do wish more girls participated. What Ms. Yu and the senior steering have done was wonderful and amazing from selling food, and having waters for the players. Everyone who played had jerseys it showed a lot of school spirit. Good, clean, competitive fun.” Overall senior dodgeball was a success and a night to remember!
