Top Senior Book Readers
When you walk into a Library, you see a variety of books that, once you open , it opens your mind. Throughout the years, you see many students come into the Library wandering around. This year numerous students checked out books like never before. Usually, you don’t see Seniors coming in a lot but, five seniors checked out a majority of books. Their names are Destiny Clark, Selena Dickson, Pehytn Cobb, Estefania Romo, and Sara Vela.
When she’s not writing poetry, Destiny Clark loves to read books on her free time. Initially, her interest in books stemmed from her infatuation with the expansion of her imagination. It takes her to a whole other world, any world that she wants. The genres that interest her are romantic and young adult novels. One of the last books she read was Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen, which is about a girl trying to find herself. Sarah Dessen is her favorite author because she can captivate her readers with relatable content.
Just the other day Selena Dickson met her favorite author, Victoria E. Schwab, who came to Taft High School to share her story and wisdom. Selena likes Schwab’s writing skills and how quirky she is. Her favorite novel is The Samurai’s Garden by Gail Tsukiyama because it features some family betrayal and self-discovery which she enjoys. When it comes to genres she genuinely doesn’t go for a specific genre; it’s based on the fact that if she likes the book, she’ll read it. She started reading towards the end of elementary school, though she had an excellent teacher who introduced her to some novels. Now she has come to love and have a passion for reading.
Pehtyn Cobb started reading when she was two-years-old. Her mother started young,reading Disney picture books to her, and she fell in love with the stories. She has read all kind of books, some even in different languages. Fiction, fantasy, dystopian, and self-awareness genres are her favorite because it expands her mind. Recently, she has read 1984, Divergent, Let Petit Prince, and The Hunger Games. Strong characters catch her attention because she likes how they progress and overcome during the challenges they have to face. During her time reading a variety of books, her favorite authors are J.K. Rowling and Veronica Roth. J.K. Rowling is one of her favorite authors because of her imagination and creativity. Also, she likes Veronica Roth because her stories are well written, and the main character in Divergent is strong.
Estefania Romo started reading when she was in sixth grade. Even the most kids her age find books annoying, she finds them fascinating because you can get lost in a plot especially if you don’t spoil a good story. The genres she reads most of is fiction, horror, and sometimes scripts/playbooks. The last books she read were The Maze Runner and The Death Cure because they have great humor and a great storyline. Her favorite author is J.K. Rowling because she inspires her that even if you are in a bad situation or can’t do something that anything is possible to achieve as long as you keep going.
Sara Vela started reading ever since she was little when the Judy B. Jones books came out. She loves to read about romance books that have a twist in them. Some of the last books she read were If I Was Your Girl, Aristotle, and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, and The Leading Edge of Now. Her favorite author is Nicholas Sparks because he wrote astonishing books that always have her attention. Another author she likes is Benjamin Alire Saenz because he wrote miraculous books and his writing is simple, sincere, and layered.
